504 Plans
Students with a 504 plan typically receive accommodations. Section 504 ensures that students with disabilities will be able to access the same curriculum and have the same opportunities at school as their other peers. It ensures that students with disabilities are not discriminated against in public schools because of their disability.
Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
Students with disabilities may qualify for additional support through obtaining an IEP. Students with a qualifying disability may have modifications and/or accommodations put in place to support their education. The IEP documents how the student qualifies for services, how the student will be supported in their education, the frequency progress is to be reported, and when they can be reevaluated. Modifications are much more common with IEPs than 504s, but students commonly receive accommodations as well.
