Site Safety Plans
Every school site has Comprehensive School Safety Plans that includes disaster procedures and emergency plans, procedures for maintaining a safe learning environment, school discipline, bullying prevention, discrimination and harassment policy, dress codes, and safety drills among other items. The California Department of Education (CDE) houses online training resources as part of a school’s CSSP. Access to the California Department of Education (CDE) and their list of training resources can be found here: https://www.cde.ca.gov/ls/ss/se/bullyres.asp. If a specific bullying prevention course was not assigned to you by your site, you should reference the resources provided by the CDE.
Site Safety Drills
Safety drills are conducted throughout the year. Make sure to check for specific requirements at each school site as plans will vary depending on the layout of the school. You will need to know exit routes, meeting locations and how to train students to remain calm and alert. A map and/or plans for emergency procedures are usually posted in all school facilities as well as alarms and extinguishers. Make sure to locate and know where these items are in the space you're using. The sound of alarms also varies between school sites, so be sure to be familiar with your school site’s alarm sounds. Some common drills are:
Earthquake Drills
Fire Drills
Lockdown Drills
