Fresno Unified Program Allowing African American Students to Earn College Credits with Virtual Classes

Fresno Unified is excited to announce a new college credit program for African American students. Through the HBCU Step Up program, students can take virtual classes and earn up to 12 college credits. The program is being provided by Benedict College in Colombia, South Carolina, and three district high schools – Bullard, Edison, and Sunnyside. Benedict College is a very diverse college that offers programs from very high-demand fields such as computer science, biology, sports management, and more.

Fresno students invited into this program will be admitted into the college and have access to an HBCU tour, college fairs, summer enrichment programs, and academic scholarships; This is a great program to look into for students who want to get ahead in their college careers.

Interested parties can learn more about the program at the information seminar on August 11th at Fresno City College Old Administrative Building 1101 E. University Ave at 6:30 or contact the director of communications at (559) 457-3816. A quote from Superintendent Bob Nelson explains, "We are excited to offer this first-of-its-kind program to our African American students. This is another way to encourage our students to not only prepare for and pursue college but to learn more about the life-changing experience of attending a HBCU."
