Books-Bring-Us-Together
For those unfamiliar, Read Across America is an annual event celebrated on or near March 2nd, the birthday of children's author Dr. Seuss. This nationwide reading motivation and awareness program was launched in 1998 by the National Education Association (NEA) to encourage children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources about diverse stories and perspectives.
Events similar to Riverside Unified School District's Books Bring Us Together help kids learn different aspects of reading and shows them how to channel their new reading skills across aspects of their daily lives. Teachers and parents need to spread awareness and get more people involved across their community so more children are encouraged to read books they enjoy but also challenging books.
The Riverside Unified Public Library will also host its events close to the first week of March to help give families a fun and exciting place to read and earn prizes.
The Books Bring Us Together event will have story time readings, arts and crafts sessions, reading activities, and quiet reading time. Parents are also encouraged to bring some snack bags for their students, so they have energy food for their reading sessions. The event will be an excellent time for everyone!
