St. Gerad Catholic High School has announced that it will be closing its doors at the end of the school year; This surprises many, as the school has been a fixture in the community for over 95 years. While declining enrollment is cited as the primary reason for the closure, financial support has also been a factor in the school closure. Currently, 35 students are enrolled for 2022-2023, and budgets are being funded by tuition revenue, donations, fund-raising, and subsidy funding.

The closure of St. Gerad Catholic High School will be a significant loss for the community. St. Gerad has been a source of pride and essential to many generations of families. The school has also been a keystone in the community, providing opportunities for students to receive financial aid to attend catholic schools of their choice. While its doors may be closing, the legacy of St. Gerad Catholic High School will surely live on.

Why are Schools like St. Gerad Catholic High School Closing Down Suddenly?

St. Gerad Catholic High School is one of many schools that have had to close their doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While the closure is understandable, the sudden decision has caused a great deal of disruption for students and families in the community.

Schools are closing down because of many factors: funding, low enrollment, and learning loss in the community. Schools have to make multiple decisions without the proper resources to manage these issues, which may only keep them floating year-to-year. Hopefully, with future funds being invested into school districts, older schools won't have to close like St. Gerad Catholic High School.
