Top 10 Summer Jobs for Teens
School’s out, summer’s in. You’re probably stoked for some well-deserved time off. But between beach days and Netflix binges, why not earn some extra cash?
Teen summer jobs are where it’s at. Plenty of companies are hiring teens right now. And with your wide open schedule, it’s the perfect time for you to get some work experience (and a paycheck).
But what kind of summer job should you get? As a teen, I worked all kinds of summer jobs, from making crepes to marketing for my
brother’s company. So I know firsthand which gigs are the best for teens.
1. Camp Counselor
If you love working with kids, being a summer camp counselor is a great job. You’ll spend your days leading activities, games, and crafts. Plus, you get to be outdoors all day.
Day camps and summer camps are always looking for energetic counselors. So if you’re a people person with a knack for fun, being a summer camp counselor could be your dream job.
2. Golf Caddy
When the weather heats up, local golf courses get busy. And they need caddies to keep things running smoothly. As a golf caddy, you’ll carry bags and help golfers around the course.
It’s a great way to get some exercise while earning tips. Plus, if you play your cards right, you might even get some free rounds of golf out of the deal.
3. Movie Theater Employee
Working at a movie theater is a classic teen summer job. And for good reason.
You get to be around entertainment all day, score free movie tickets, and enjoy that delicious popcorn smell. From taking tickets to working the concession stand, there are plenty of roles for teens at the theater.
4. Food Service Worker
Food service jobs are perfect for many teens. You’ll learn how to work in a fast-paced environment, handle money, and deliver top-notch customer service. Plus, you can often get complimentary or reduced-price meals, which is hard to pass up.
5. Pet Sitter
If you’re an animal lover, pet sitting is the ultimate summer job. You get paid to play with cute critters all day.
From walking dogs to feeding cats, there are plenty of pet care gigs available. You can even sign up for apps like Rover or Wag to find clients in your area. Just be ready for the occasional accident or escape artist.
6. Lifeguard
If you’re a
good swimmer, being a lifeguard is a classic teen summer job. It’s a great way to spend summer days outdoors, working on a tan, and making some extra cash.
But don’t be fooled, lifeguarding is a big responsibility. You’re responsible for people’s lives. That’s why most places require you to get certified in CPR and first aid before you can even apply.
7. Retail Sales Associate
Working in retail is another popular option for teens during the summer. And if you love fashion, scoring a job at your favorite clothing store can be a dream come true.
Plus, you often get sweet employee discounts. Just try not to blow your whole paycheck on new clothes.
8. Tutor
Are you a whiz at math or a grammar guru? Put those skills to good use by tutoring over the summer.
Many students take summer school or summer courses to get ahead or makeup credits. That means there’s a demand for tutors to help them pass those classes.
You can sign up with a tutoring company or advertise your services online or around your neighborhood. You help others, sharpen your skills, and earn money with tutoring.
9. Landscaper
Mowing lawns, weeding gardens, trimming hedges – there’s always yard work to be done, especially during the summer months. You could work for a landscaping company or start your own small business by offering your services to neighbors and friends.
It’s a great workout too. Who needs a gym membership when you’re hauling bags of mulch and pushing a mower in the great outdoors?
If you’re always on social media anyway, why not get paid for it? Many small businesses and organizations need help managing their social media accounts, but may not have the budget to hire a full-time person.
That’s where you come in. You can offer your services to help them create content, engage with followers, and grow their online presence.
It’s a great way to gain some real-world marketing and communication experience while getting paid to do something you enjoy. Plus, you can do it from anywhere – the beach, the pool, your couch. The possibilities are endless.
Key Takeaway: Dive into summer with these hot gigs. From lifeguarding to social media managing, there’s a perfect job for every teen. Embrace your skills and passions while making cash.
