The Apple Valley Unified School District (AVUSD) is pleased to announce that breakfast and lunch will be complimentary for all students in grades K 12 during the 2022-2023 school year. Students will no longer need to purchase a lunch or bring their food; all meals are offered for free. Students, of course, can pay for extra meals if they are available if they want to.
This effort is part of AVUSD’s ongoing commitment to ensure that all students can access nutritious food and focus on their education. For more information, please visit the district website.
Why are More Schools Offering Free Lunch and Breakfast?
Schools are offering more programs to keep kids fed and healthy thanks to the recent budget increases by the government. Additionally, free food programs can help to alleviate poverty-related stress for families who may be struggling to make ends meet. Students can go to school and focus on studying and doing their regular classwork without worrying about whether they will be able to eat.
Finally, providing free food in schools is a way to ensure that all children have access to nutritious meals, regardless of their socioeconomic status. In sum, free lunch and breakfast programs offer several benefits for students and families, which is why more and more schools are offering these programs.

Student Hires Programs
Student Hires is a community organization that creates after school and expanding learning programs led by college students for disadvantaged youth in our community. Our programs increase the career readiness of K-12 students by providing them with the opportunity to explore different careers, build workplace skills, and develop a network of professional mentors.
We currently offer programs in robotics, computer science, and engineering. We are always looking to help schools create creative programs for their students. To become a partner, check out our partner page for more information.
Conclusion
The AVUSD is offering all students complimentary breakfast and lunch for the upcoming school year. Struggling families don’t need to worry about providing food for their children; it can be difficult for many families to give their child food with the economic issues our country is facing right now. We hope that more schools will follow suit and offer similar programs, as they can make a big difference in the lives of children and their families.
