In addition, the Coachella Valley Unified School District paid bus driver apprentice program will provide participants with an opportunity to gain the skills and experience needed to excel in this role while also providing the opportunity to earn a class B license.

1. The law says that this Trainee position must last 40 hours. But if the trainee does well, the Director of Transportation may make it longer.
2. The pay for this position is 19/A on the Classified Salary Schedule, except for bargaining unit members receiving this training who remain at their regular pay rate.
3. The hours/days of assigned training shall be scheduled by the Director of Transportation or, in the Director’s absence, a management designee.
4. The hire date to the classification of Bus Driver for purposes of determining bus driver seniority shall be the first day of licensed, paid service as a CVUSD bargaining unit Bus
A Class B commercial learner permit will need to be obtained (Obtained at DMV) to complete behind-the-wheel training and to receive hourly pay.
