The Coachella Valley Unified School District is launching a new paid driver apprentice program to fill the increasing need for safe and reliable transportation for their students and help them look for specific bus driver positions in the area.

In addition, the Coachella Valley Unified School District paid bus driver apprentice program will provide participants with an opportunity to gain the skills and experience needed to excel in this role while also providing the opportunity to earn a class B license.

In addition to receiving hands-on training from experienced professionals, apprentices in this program will also receive support from a dedicated mentor throughout their time in the program. With its strong emphasis on safety and performance, this apprenticeship program is an excellent way to prepare students for rewarding careers as professional bus drivers.

Here are the requirements and specifications:

1. The law says that this Trainee position must last 40 hours. But if the trainee does well, the Director of Transportation may make it longer.

2. The pay for this position is 19/A on the Classified Salary Schedule, except for bargaining unit members receiving this training who remain at their regular pay rate.

3. The hours/days of assigned training shall be scheduled by the Director of Transportation or, in the Director’s absence, a management designee.

4. The hire date to the classification of Bus Driver for purposes of determining bus driver seniority shall be the first day of licensed, paid service as a CVUSD bargaining unit Bus

A Class B commercial learner permit will need to be obtained (Obtained at DMV) to complete behind-the-wheel training and to receive hourly pay. So if you are looking for an enriching and meaningful opportunity, consider joining the Coachella Valley Unified School District’s paid bus driver apprentice program and start making progress in your career.
